Haiti Series, 1974–1978
When, in 1974, Isham’s husband, Heyward Isham, was appointed Ambassador to Haiti, the couple moved to Port Au Prince where Isham was confronted by what she termed “an earth culture” that very much intrigued her. Yet it was the extraordinary light that caused her palette to effervesce in open surfaces featuring a palette of pastels and whites, clouds of atmosphere that deploy the airbrush technique of previous years.
